    Choosing the right PSU

    Hey,

I'm trying to plan out all the parts for my carputter . Now i've read up some of the discussions that went on in here about inverterts/dc-dc psu's etc. And i have a few questions that i need help with...

First of all Opus offers some very neat stuff on its PSU's, and i think its the best choice for my project. However, I am planning to get the Travla C134 case, which means i dont have much space inside? I've only found some pictures of the 150W opus supply, and it doesnt look like it would fit in the C134 (has anyone tried?). Now I'm not sure what the 90W PSU looks like since i havent seen any descriptions of it on the OPUS site, does anyone know how big it is or has any pictures?

I dont think i need a 150W supply, since i will be running all laptop components (slim hdd/dvd/wireless card) so in theory a 90W should be enough.. am i correct?

    the mini-itx site offers a morex 55W dc-dc PSU > http://www.ouija2k.net/alubox/images...are/55wpsu.jpg

Has anyone tried this? (any comments on it would be appreciated).

Oh and finally, what is the price for the OPUS PSU's? Both 150W / 90W versions.

    Thanks.

You've run into the exact problem that a number of us have with regard to the C134 case and the Opus supplies. I've spoken to Kris at Opus about this, and neither the 150 or 90 watt board will fit in the C134 case. He is interested in developing one for it though.

I'm also working with a local VIA/Casetonic supplier who is talking to Casetronic about developing one. Stay tuned.

BTW, a note to Kris at Opus Solutions might get him interested even faster....

Sent him an email.. It would be nice to see a PSU that would fit in that case.. What do you think about the Wattage though? Would 90W be enough for my putter?

Yeah, the wattage would be fine with the 90W, the Casetonic one supplied in the C134 is only 60W.

The problem with the 90 though, is that it formerly had a problem and smoked a bunch of people's boards. (see posts about this) Kris told me this had been fixed, but it's still 4 weeks out to get one, just like the 150 watt. I figgured, neither will fit in the C134 case, so might as well get the bigger one just in case. I didn't ask for a price on the 90W, but the 150 was $190 plus $10. If he gives you a price on the 90W, could yo post it?

Yeah, once i get the price ill post it. Now the question is, can we get some kind of an enclosure for these PSU's so they are protected.. If we cant fit them in the case, at least make them look somewhat in place by adding a plastic case or soemthing

Hmm, and what is the difference between 120X / 240X series?

Also since its a pcb module... Maybe it can fit in the C134? (that would be sweet )
