Can the Opus handle all that? Can I send the amp's remote turn-on line to the Opus too? Would that cause a thump thump from the stereo when I turn on the car?
Man I have never installed a car stereo before and I am doing all this and the computer at the same time... my brain hurts on occasion...

He is asking about the AMP remote turn on...that is a valid question and is being discussed in either the Neubie or Hardware section as we speak.
"Anyone running their computer AND amps off the Opus? "
"Can the Opus handle all that?"
He also asked that.

Use this to connect the remote not the opus, keep the opus for pc stuff.
The cable needed for the amp main power needs to be at least the wattage of your amp I would double it, so look for a 800watt amp cable, this will power your inverter and a 400 watt amp no prob, thats what I have in my Audi.
The speaker connections are simple as well, just tap into the wiring loom, unless you have the bose system, then its a biaaaatch as this runs from its own amp, and if you bypass this the speakers are 8ohm I think and u need 4 ohm speakers for your amp, it may be the otherway round lol

Uh no, I am simply asking because I don't have any clue. You're nutz!

Thanks for the reply, man. I have ripped out the entire Bose system - don;t want to keep any of that junk in there. Those speakers looked like a couple of 4" cardboard cups. I replaced with 5 1/4" Kicker Resolutions.
Reason I was asking about the remote turn on was because I was pretty much thinking that if I had the amps and PC turn on from different remote lines then I would get the audible "thump" through the speakers when I start the car.

nothing you can really do about it mate, I get it, the only way would be to start the amp before you start the pc.Originally Posted by brrman

dont u mean start the amp after the pc, cause the pc causes the thump, through the sound card being initialised.
It aint no family car.

Yes, I think you mean amp turns on AFTER pc. What I am doing is using the remote turn on output from the opus to fire a relay. This relay then turns on my 2 amps and LCD. This solution places very little load on the opus, and you can also use an adjustable time-delay relay if you have thump issues. I'll post a wiring diagram tonight.

The "You're Nutz!" was to emphasize hooking the amp's main power to the opus could be a very bad idea and should be avoided at all costs. You'd hope the Opus would trigger over current protection, but I don't plan to find out. It was nothing personal.
About the thump, the only way is to hook it up an try. I used to get a thump when I first installed the system. Since then, my amps, subs, and sound card drivers have changed, and the thump is gone.
If you do get one, getting rid of it involves timing the turn on lead. Some (all amps I've owned) already have a preprogrammed delay. But this delay was targetted at head units. It may not coincide with your pc setup and you may need to add an external circuit.
Now, the opus already has a slight delay from ignition to pc boot. So if you use the yellow wire off an HD molex connector from the Opus, that may buy u a few seconds of delay. Hopefully this plus your amps delay is enough. But if not, wait on Al's diagram. You can also buy a unit from Pac for this purpose.
