Is this what I need to power a laptop?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...category=32814

Will this give me enough power? Too much?

I want to run a laptop and possibly a playstation2 without putting too much load on the battery.

    help!

I don't know man... I would hold out for a 300w if I were you... Not only that, but if you want to power a PS2 while you're at it, you're going to want two outlets, not just one, and there is a good reason that one offers only one. My first inverter was a 150w, but as soon as I wanted to connect an out and out desktop to it, it died everytime. I say as long as the PS2 is in the mix, get a 300w. If not, then the 150w will surely be enough to take care of your laptop alone!

What would you consider "Too Much" for the car to handle before worrying. Im a noob with power so, would I need to worry about drawing too much with a 300W?

Is there a specific brand you recommend?

    thanks.

Actually, concerning wattage, there isn't a "too much" level. Think of amount of wattage in terms of a 2 litre of Coke. You might not drink all of it at one time, but it's nice to have it all right there instead of running out to the store for more. The total wattage rating is the amount of power available. It doesn't indicate how much your device will be forced to take. Your devices will only take what they need, and "leave the rest for later" so to speak. Bear in mind that the wattage rating is usually the maximum wattage the unit is willing to sustain for short periods. The more, the merrier. My current one was purchased from RadioShack, but the ones from Tripp Lite are very good as well. They cost a little more, but their voltage drop tolerance is better, meaning if your car's alternator doesn't provide quite as much at idle as at speed, it won't squeal and cut power to your devices.

Also, as I learned from the good folks here, you will probably want to hardwire that bad boy to a better line than the cigarette lighter line. Preferably something 25+ amps, or even wire it to the battery with a 30amp fuse should be fine too. That's what I did with mine, and it solved a ton of issues!
