Shut downs and PS and Inverters oh my ?

New to CarPuters, I see a issue (I think) looking for some input.

    Computer X

Should I run a Inverter ?? Run it off 12 Volts with a Opus PS or Run it off 12 volts with an Opus and a dc/dc power supply to make sure it only gets 12 Volts ?

Most of the posts for the 12 Volt computer list 12 Volts as the Max you can apply to it (same for the Lilliput monitors it seems there is even a warning on one of the web sites stating do not apply more then 12 volts)

The Opus is a dc-dc power supply and regulator!

Has Anyone tried running an Opus off a 12V gel cell and then charging the Gel Cell from the car's electrical system ??? might take some of the ripple out of the power and maybe get around the computer rebooting when you crank the engine

With the opus you don't have to worry about that, it takes care of the rebooting when cranking the engine. From what I have read, the computer does not rebot when using the opus. It also has other feature such as shutdowm controller and low voltage detection. I going to get the opus for my system when I start my project.

All I know is the Opus is a DC-to-DC power supply normally used for a small computer, i.e. the Epia.

But after reading posts with titles like

“Does your Opus's low voltage shut down function work?”

“OPUS PROBLEMS: Please post here if your Opus may have damaged your motherboard”

I am not sure how good it really works so I asked some questions.
