    PW-70A and ITPS give up with OPUS

    Well i have finally given up on OPUS, so have gone for the above setup as an alternative, but by the size of the thing, i might be happier with building the custom case, as it appears to have a smaller footprint than the OPUS solution, have i sold myself short for going for this option?

    Question OPUS vs PW-70A + ITPS

    Which of the OPUS functions are not available with the ITPS and PW-70? Is the ITPS smaller than the OPUS, it looks longer?

    Crank survival is not going to happen with the ITPS/PW-70a, but for the smaller footprint and price difference, I'll live with it.

    Sorry, what is crank survival? Does that mean the ITPS will eventually fail after so many engine starts? What does the OPUS do differently that would make it more reliable?

    crank survival is when you have your pc running before you start the car, when you turn the key to start the car (and the engine "cranks") there is a major voltage drop in your line beause so much power is trying to start your engine. The ITPS can't sustain the voltage for the 2-3 seconds it takes to start your car (therefore it shuts down your PC), the the Opus can. this can be solved with what people around here call a Tank Circuit, that i don't know much about, you can search for it though.

    I am having a car audio shop put in an isolator and second battery. The isolator hooks up to the alternator and distributes power to both batteries to charge them. But when the engine is off, it "isolates" the batteries so they dont leech off each other. this means that I can hook up all my accessories to the second battery and let it drain completely, and still have the main battery to start the car. once started, the alternator will recharge both batteries.


    I had something like this in my truck and installed it myself, and 3 days later my alternator exploded. THats why im having an audio shop do it this time

    well i was researching this same topic of a PS surviving cranks, or just overall life. and it seems that this will solve the problem of the low power dropouts and harsh start ups and shut downs.

    is it strongly recommended that I also install a on/off switch in line with this regulator? so that i can be the one who determines when and if the carputer will even receive power? say if i'm installing something and testing it, thus starting and shutting down car very often. so i flick this switch to off and the carputer never even sees any power. correct? thanks
