Thread: Turn on CarPC connected to Opus without ignition switch.

i haven't actually tried this but i was thinking this would work. get a remote relay which toggles on and off. using the relay to connect the constant 12v wire to the switched 12v wire, when the relay is on, the switched wire will have 12v running to it and the opus will switch the computer on. i don't know that much about electronics so feedback would be appreciated as i would like to try this in my car.

hopefully someone can answer this for me. using the opus, when my computer has been on for a while with the car off, the computer will eventually shutdown and then restart over and over again until i turn the ignition off. i'm guessing the car battery is getting low with the alternator not running and the computer drawing on the battery and the voltage to the switched 12v wire is fluctuating causing the opus to think the ignition is being switched on and off. does that sound right? and how do i keep it from doing that?

My CarPC has a Opus Power Unit built in and starts when I switch the engine on and shuts down when I turn it off again. Works very good for normal in-car use.

But sometimes, once a week, I want to upload some new mp3 or install some updates/programs over the WiFi connection using Remote Desktop.

How should I start the CarPC without turning on the ignition and/or leaving the key in the car? My battery can easily power the pc for a few hours...
