I'm confused.
You have a inverter and a shutdown controller?
So your shutdown controller only is used to press the power button?
So you don't have a 12 volt PS?
Ok I have one of these controllers in my camaro already working fine, but this one apparently doesn't like me. It's hooked up fine, I turn the car on, the computer turns on, but then it shuts off before it can even boot up!![]()
I THINK what's happening.. It seems if the inverter/computer are off, if I switch the inverter on with the switch on the inverter, the computer is turning on just but switching the inverter on, then the controller proceeds to "press the power button" to turn the computer on, but since it's already on from the inverter switching on, it's then shuts the computer off.. Any one else run into this problem? Is there another way to wire this to get around this, or a way to stop it from turning on with the inverter switching on? Maybe a way to not have it press the button on startup but only at power loss to shut it down? I'm hardly an expert on this controller..
Any help is appreciated!

No I don't have a 12V power supply.. I use the controller with a power inverter and the computer is plugged into the inverter.. I don't want to have to press the power button everytime.. It works perfectly fine in the Camaro. Controller turns the inverter on, then turns the computer on, then when i turn the car off it shuts the computer, then kills power to the inverter.

Have you tried unplugging it and turning the dials to another position?
Maybe the unit is bad or broken now.
My unit broke and I use it to only kill total power to the system and turn on the PC. I have to manually press power off for temporarily until I decide on a new shutdown controller and a crank circuit setup.

The dials are adjusted so that it instantly pushes the power button, and for the shortest amount of time, then it kills power approx 30 seconds later.. My computer usually takes only 10 seconds to shutdown.. I'm pretty sure it's working fine, it's just that for some reason the computer likes to turn itself on instantly when the inverter gets power..

Actually, now that I think about it.. I'm wrong.. The inverter has always been turning on with the ignition when the motherboard power button wires are not connected to the shutdown controller, and the computer does not turn on, it only turns on when the motherboard power button wires are attached to the shutdown controller, so my theory is wrong which in that case means I have absoutely no clue why it's turning on then turning off..

O I understand now.
I thought the shutdown controller was suppose to only press the power button when the PC shuts down. Maybe mine wasn't broken - or wait now I'm real confused.
But anywayz, do this... Go to your BIOS and look for the power option. When COmputer loses power Stay Off/ Last STate / Turn ON.
You can set accordingly. My PC is set to Turn on after power loss in BIOS so it turns on when the car is started and shutdown recives the 12 volt turn on lead.
BIOS on your motherboard inthe camaro is set right, I suppose the Grand Prix I mean needs to be adjusted.

Hm, I will have to check the setting there.. The thing is it's the same computer.. I just pulled it out of the camaro and haven't changed a thing in bios, so it should work just the same.. I will defintely double check..
Yeah the controller is supposed to turn the computer on and off for you.. At least that's what I thought![]()

I know it turns it on and off for you, but I thought it only sends a ATX pulse when the 12 volt turn on lead drops low.

Apparently the BIOS on that computer doesnt have a after AC power loss option.. I dunno.. I'm using J2 for the ATX power switch wires (the 2 closest to the dials).. If I have the 2 wires on one way, the computer does not turn on at all, if I reverse the two wires on the same two pins, it turns on then turns itself off..
I think you're right in that it's only supposed to press the switch at power loss, so I just gotta figure out how I can get it to turn on now since theres no option in bios so I can set it to boot after power loss.
