    Arise PSUs?

Does anyone have first hand experience with Arise power supplies not surviving cranks? I've searched and searched and haven't found a single post stating such. These look to be a great alternative to Opus' overpricing and underservicing. The ONLY advantage that Opus has (aside from shutdown features that are, in my opinion, best added in seperately for flexibility) is higher efficiency, and at half the price, who cares? Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

A big deterrent to anyone buying Arise products had been their crappy website with no prices posted, but how is that any different than Opus? I, for one, passed them over as probably too expensive (for some reason I had them associated with Keypower in my mind,) but recently learned how wrong I was. Apparently Arise's 100 watt fully regulated DC-DC PSU is only $79, probably even less than you could build a Sproggy for. And they have alot of different models.

    What am I missing here?

    none,

i will be installing the arise PSU over my spring break (march 13), and i will be sure to post here (even if only for you since everyone else seems to be hell bent on spending twice as much for 10 watts less power and a shutdown controller).

I still havent got my shutdown controller from jeff.....hrmmm....i emailed him at the end of last week. oh well, im sure it will be here soon. (even if not, i can still do the install and just be SURE to power down every time i get out of the car)....

jeff, if you see this, email me

    jusatry,

I am in the process of writing an FAQ regarding power options for a carpc. If you have anything to add (advantages/disadvantages) regarding that Arise power supply, and possibly the Jeff Mucha etc, then please let PM me

Details please. Make of car, computer setup, Arise model? How is anyone ever to know if we don't talk about it? I've noticed alot of the oldtimers on this forum used the Arise PSU on their last setups (Aaron Cake, can't remember who else) and haven't ever seen a negative post about them.

Edit: I see that you are now using a pw70. How can you possibly find this superior? Do you realize it's disadvantages? Now I'm even more interested to hear about your troubles with the Arise. I'd be very surprised if they are harder to fix than the pw70's shortcomings.

I have an old Arise power supply (cost me an arm and a leg when I got it 5 years ago), it never gave me problems when I used it then. However aren't all the units they sell the older AT style power supplies?
