Why would you need a P4 3.0HT? You plan on playing UT2k4 on a 7' LCD? While my VIA was out of the car it ran games that are only a year or so old without a problem. I think it's overkill. You won't be able to justify the extra expense with the ammount of gaming you will do. But hey, it's your money not mine.

more processor power = power 12v to DC power, no opus power supply is going to be able to run a P4 and a Radeon or Gforce + 3.5 hard drive and 3.5 CD/DVD drive, looks time to read up and re-think your setup.

Man.... your insane. You dont need a P4 3GHz unless you plan on playing some games on that thing. Its a waste of good money. Also unless you have one big dash youre going to have a rough time fitting a mobo behind the LCD. An Opus 150w will be border line running that. I would not reccomend it.

If you really want to power all of that stuff, you could use two OPUS 150w power supplies. One for the motherboard, the other for the video card, hard drive, etc. Money doesn't seem to be an object for you. Do you have space to install two of them?

y do certain people want to chop this guys ideas down??

if he wants a P4 3 'jigawatts' cpu then whats the problem?

y are the people (esp with VIA's) bagging this guy for wanting a p4? years ago a VIA would of been overkill, get with the times and stop givin people crap for wanting bigger and better, this forum was created for giving and sharing advice not putting people down.

dark_muppet - proposed setup sounds awesome, ull just need todo a bit more research into the total WATTS this baby is gonna need and how much an opus can supply (max i think is 150WATT dont quote me though), personaly i run a 300w inverter (NO BIAS BETWEEN OPUS and INVERTER) and ive had no probs at all with it.

ahh sorry if this post offends you im just mearly stating something ive seen a few times and its just got to me when reading this post.

Yes, this is for a showcar but unlike most showcars, this one's no trailer queen so I want to be sure it can run under it's own power. For shows I can just use extension cords etc.

The computer's going in a fiberglass area where the back seats used to be. It's a 2003 Eclipse to give you an idea of what space I'm working with. The vga cord will run to the 10.4 in monitor from back there.

    I agree...

Mine is a Pentium 4 2GHz laptop based car PC and its already ageing.

You find that some guys who put poeple down is using a 3.0 V6 behind thier cars. Why have such a big engine when you can get by with a 950cc. Most only need to go 70Mph and 950cc should cope with it

Anyway his main problem is the PSU but then inverters can easily cope with that.

what if I just went with an alienware laptop? Those are basically what I need, right?

So itd just be a matter of running power to it so I don't have to run off its battery.

PC would be a better solution than a laptop, IMO.
