PW70a w/o ITPS startup, shutdown, and more!

i want the option of manually turning my system on, but i want it to auto-shutdown. i'm running all laptop components and a pw70 PSU.

for shutdown i'm going to use the Xp UPS trick.

wiring is my question. i can just wire the PSU to 12V constant, right? how can i wire to add a dash power on switch?

also, should i want to add autostart later, how might i be able to do that? some kind of WOL trick out there or similar?

i'm sure someone has a wiring diagram for hardwiring a pw70 in, but ican't find one.

If you have a pure 12V constant that would be very rare, but you could wire that in. I would suggest getting an ITPS and wiring everything up except for the ITPS's wires that start the computer... then you can wire up a button just like any other computer. This will give you an auto-off but it won't be software induced, it'll be just killing the power. When you want to switch over to auto start just wire up the ITPS completely.

jus use the 2 pins switch (power) from the mother board (polarity doesn't matter) and run the 2 wires fro ur pc to ur dash switch. . Quoted from cyn&Ian's website No need for a shutdown controller if you use WinXP! Setup a generic UPS with a 'Negative Signal Polarity' in WinXP>Power Options, Then connect 5v from the PSU through a relay to pin 8 on the com port. Connect your 12v ACC line to activate the relay when your key is in the ingition. When you take your key out of the ignition, the ACC line drops to 0v which causes WinXP to close down. Simple!
For a quicker boot and shutdown enable Hibernation or STR/Standby.

i thought you only needed pure, regulated 12V for 12V components like std 3.5" HDDs and optical drives. i'm running 5V accessories (USB, HDD, DVD) which is regulated. am i wrong here?

You may be correct but the 12v still goes though your motherboard, even if it's not powering anything I wouldn't want dirty power running through my motherboard. you may be more confident in VIA's design than I am but that's a crammed board and I'm sure the traces are as small as possible.
