    laptop power on ring

my laptop supports powering on a model signal over the serial port. the signal can be either RI (ring indicator i assume) or PME# (i'm not sure what that is). any ideas on how to connect this to power on the laptop when i start the car?

I'm using a laptop, a Dell one. I bought a cheap docking station for it, £20 at a computer market. I have wired two internal relays to it, it now powers on everytime the poewr is connected, and once power has been removed, it goes into hibernation after 10 mins..

the relay diagram I used is

It works great :-) and also means I didnt open the laptop, and dont need to disconnect any wires if I want to bring it inside to work on it.

alas, i have no room for a docking station (though i think there may be something called a "port bar" available thats much smaller.... i believe they were made at one time, but its an old laptop... NEC Versa LX circa early 2000)
