how to run opus at home?

i tried searching for this but didnt really find anythign.

what would I need to run my Opus/CarPC at home instead of in the car?

i have a few 12v adaptors laying around but i dont want to blow any fuses. could i just jumpstart a 300w PC power supply, and plug a molex connector into the opus?

    thanks!

i just searched some more and found
"I use a normal 350W ATX PSU to power my Opus when the CarPC is in the house. Just tap the yellow and black wires from the 4-pin Molex connectors for +12V. My PSU can supply a maximum of 15A on the +12V output and that's enough to supply a fully loaded Opus 150W."

so i guess i can do that right?
edit- how exactly do i tell the ignition wire to start the opus.. i never really bothered with that? thanks!

To test carpc set-up I by-pass the Opus and I use a regular power supply with atx connectors and hdd/fdd/cd connectors. With this you also need a power switch connected to the mobo. I got a used pc case, they come with the power switch and psu.

To test Opus you need to have regulated 12v, one constant (normally connected to battery) and one with a switch of some sort. (simulating the switched 12v in the car). Use a 10A fuse for the constant 12v. Here you don't need a power switch, the Opus controls start/shutdown.

Thanks for the reply. I just hooked up the 300w ATX PSU to the system and it works fine.
However, I have not been able to get the Opus to run. I plugged the Yellow and Black lines of the ATX PSU to the Opus, and a green light stays lit for about 1/4 second and then goes out.

I do not know what's wrong. The power supply should be fine, since it can output 15A on 12+ line.
What am I doing wrong here? I have the Opus power button wire connected to the motherboard. What am I supposed to do with the blue wire? Its just hanging here and doing nothing right now.

    Thanks

plug the red and the yellow of the opus into +12v, and the black to ground,
the red is the constant live, the yellow is the switched live.

my opus has Red, Black, and Blue.

So plug the red(from opus) into the yellow (ATX PSU 12+v), the black into the black, and the blue(from opus) into another yellow (ATX PSU 12+v) ???

i have tried that and it does the same thing. the green light blinks 2 times over and over and the computer doesnt boot.

    what could be wrong?

I have one last question... instead of starting a new thread, i will just use this one.

do i need that Egg for the car adaptor... i believe the only thing it does is regulate the voltage to 12v.

if you leave out the grey egg regulator, everything should still work lile normal when running the screen off the opus right?

    thanks guys!

Egg? You mean the mains adapter for your display? You can run your screen of the Opus, yes. Split or double one of the internal 12v connectors. Hook that up to your screen and it will powered up/down by the Opus.
