Thanks
I agree, I need to post my pictures and update my thread. I just wanted to make sure I actually had everything working before I went around bragging about ithehe
Congratulations we87! Now I must ask for Pics! That, or you must appear at a meet to show off.
Those are the rules....
(change your sig, btw)
Thanks

Everything is in the car and working.
I painted the cilpboard mount and it looks good.
Shutdown/Startup is working excellent!

Holy back from the dead batman.
I almost posted up a new thread but I thought it belonged better here.
I got a couple questions if someone doesn't mind looking over this design and tell me if it is correct.
Background:
What I'm trying to do is delay the inverter starting up for around 3-5 seconds, auto shutdown via pin-8, and delay power cutoff to the inverter by about 1-2 minutes. I might add in a delay to my amps later, but thats another story. Basically what we87 did, I just want to make sure it's right before I start building.
Main Question:
If anyone might have an idea on a transistor I could use to replace a 2N3053 since the shack doesn't sell them. I can pick up the rest at the shack. Once I'm finished I hope to post the sheet I'm working on with part numbers and a price list and the sources I used so that others could use this in the future, however I want to make sure it's right before I go and start building.
Anyway here is what I have at the moment. And I know, led's L1 and L2 aren't labeled. I want to change those to 5mm by the way, thats the reason for the increase in the value of C3. R4's value isn't listed due to having to change it to two 4.7k in series due to the shack not having 9.2k resistors and I just got lazy and haven't changed it yet.
Let me know what you all think.
I'm not sure what the LEDs are for but I think the first one will slow the charge of C2 & C3 much more than you want. Remove them both, and just tie them to each point with a resistor, and ground the other end.
Nice Schematic
I know I had the exact same issues with the 2N3032 Transistor, but now I cant remember which one I used in place of it... When I have time Ill look at my controller in the car and hopefully Ill be able to tell which transistors is which on there. But I bet if you Google around for "2n3053 Replacement Alternative" you'll find what your looking for. The main thing to remember and keep in mind is which transistor is a NPN and which transistor is a PNP. Thats the main difference from what I found anyhow...
Also, I'm not sure if you've seen it or not, but theres a little app you can run and when you short pin4 and pin8 on your comport (easily done with a relay) the computer automatically shuts down. Thats what I use in place of the +5v going into the com port. That thread is here: New shutdown controller - software

we87: Yeah I looked at it when you e-mailed me, but thought this method may be a bit easier and it's one less program to run on the pc which is only a 1.3 celey with 128mb ram (upgrading that once I get it setup).
I've looked for a replacement but was wondering what others were using. Thats just part of the schematic, I got the parts list and the sources on the main schematic image with total prices and shack part numbers.
My solution was to use a switch.... cheap and very effective![]()

Yes, you should search... and Yes, It has been covered before!
Read the FAQ!
Yeah but I hate having to remember to press power and wait in my truck for the pc to turn off.![]()
make a tank circuit, this will allow you to crank your engine and keep the computer running on a back up battery.
Search tank circuits on this forum.
