A 2N3904 should be easy enough to find.

so for the 5 sec delay i can use three 2N3904 transistors? i can find the 2N3053 part for like 70 cents but i dont want to pay 5-6 dollars in shipping for one stupid component.

I just saw 1 transistor that was switching a relay. For that, you could go to radio shack and get a general purpose NPN transistor. Bosch relays only pull 150mA max. For the other 2, I don't know.
