but this one doesn't have a delay timer to shut down the computer, does it? I mean, if your computer hangs on shutdown, then it will never turn off the power, and the battery will go flat right?

And I'd love to see a desktop diagram. This is a good start, and I am willing to risk my PC not shutting down if I have to.

Yeah, I need the forced-shutdown... The non-forced shutdown has been posted before.

    shutdown hanging

ok well i have realized that problem im thinking of just running software that if there is no movment of the mouse or keyboard for lets say 3 hours then the computer will automaticaly shut down using a forced shut down i havent set that up yet but i have the power on working i will post more detailed pictures when i have time
one last thing I HAVE FORGOT TO PUT ONE PART ON THE SHEMATIC I HAVE A DIODE ON THE POSITIVE 5 VOLT LINE FROM THE COMPUTER TO THE RELAY

I AM GOING TO DRAW A VERY GOOD SCHEMATIC FOR BOTH I HAVE A LOT OF PICS I WILL POST IF ANY ONE HAS A SUGGESTION OF A SOFTWARE THAT WILL TIRN IT OFF AT A CERTIN TIME

Yeah, but that still wont solve the problem if the computer hangs - because nothing will respond. You cant have a software solution to the problem, because the software will hang with the PC. That's why I tried to build the hardware one with the capacitor-resistor-transistor setup. That way, no matter what happens, after 90 seconds the power is totally cut off from the whole system (even the inverter)... but I couldnt get it to work.

You should be able to get the computer to shut down at a particular time using the windows task scheduler in the system tray.

    Cheers,

    Scott.

Give me a day or so to draw it and I'll post my circuit diagram for you guys.

    It works perfectly....

    Ok cool.

I think Johnnybad's circuit would be good, but I also need the forced shutdown... Does yours do that too?

    http://www.macromatic.com/literature...l/compact.html
try thi s but as far as my circut goes i just wanted to show the two relays to that same switch but if you were that concerned the relay from the 5 volts (usb) could be used ti triger the time delay relay that i have shown to shut the comp off
