you could set up the opus to power down immediatly after the ignition is turned off and use a toggle switch to feed power to the opus to make it think the ignition is on. maybe use a on-off-on toggle, (ignition, off, constant) for more flexibility.
First, let me apologize for asking something that's probably been discussed at least a couple of hundred of times (though i cant find anything - Doh!).
My question is. I originally ran a straight momentary switch right from my Epia MII, and it seems like that is generating some problems with the opus, hence i have to use the remote wire on opus to get it to function properly.
I'd like to keep my setup as it was (I dont want to power/shutdown an opus automatically on ignition on/off). I'd like to keep control of my computer with my momentary switch. That is:
1) I'd like to be able to turn it on/off when ignition is off
2) I'd like to be able to turn it on/off when ignition is on
Call me stupid, this sounds easy but i cant figure out how to accomplish this with the remote wire and relays (the ignition off is what causes problems).
Any insight to a electrically challenged one here? hehe![]()

I put mine on my head light switch. I always drive with at least my fog lights on. That way I can leave it powered on even if I shut off the car.
Right, so in theory if i find a constant 12V source. Could i use my momentary button to trigger the relay on/off.

Not really, the relay is not triggered by a momentary pulse, it needs a constant 12v signal. The OPUS stays on when it senses 12v on the blue iginition line, and tries to shut off when it senses 0v. As bridger suggested, what you need is a 3 way toggle switch, you would connect an ignition line to the first input pole on the toggle, constant 12v to the second, and nothing to the third, if the toggle is in the first position, it will only turn the computer on when the ignition is one, the second, it will go on regardless of the cars state, and the third, it will go off regardless of the cars state. The output of the toggle should be connected to the blue iginition line of the OPUS.
If you want to make a momentary button into a toggle switch, you can do this with a few relays, theres instructions on www.the12volt.com for how to do this, look for a momentary to constant relay circuit.

Ah! That's what i was looking for. thanks!
We can engage and disengage the latched output with a single pulse from a switch or an output from an alarm or remote keyless entry. The first pulse from the switch will engage the latch. The next pulse from the switch will disengage the latch.

i would use a potion switch. center being what ever the ing is.. Down is OFF conected to nothing. and up is 12 right from the battery so dosnt matter if car is on or off
This helps me because i have a blank momentary switch that i can now use as my acc line switch.Originally Posted by beaverpants

Nice site, however adding shipping to these.. will defeat the purpose of getting these from them. Especially due to the fact that I'm in Canada.![]()
