I've done it too man lol. Except with caps, and it took a little while to let go .
Well, I was trying to test my 4 yr old 150W atx psu with the carpc setup. I connected it to the pc, it booted and was working fine. When I touched one of the heat sink to see if its getting hot., I got a nice electrical shock!!!. I checked with my multimeter and it showed around 700V when the pc was on and around 170V when the pc off shut off. I may be bit off on the volatges, but the heatsink definately had some current passing thru. I disconnected the power cord and the voltage was gone. The question is .. is this normal??? I thought the heat sink should be isolated.![]()

Check it out?!
Bad assumption, always check them with a meter first. Many manufactures mount Power components directly to an isolated heatsink for better thermal conductivity. Of course; like yourself, I found that out the painfull way.I thought the heat sink should be isolated.

My brain got reset in the process. I can think clearly, better than before now

A few rules to 'live' by when dealing with unknown powered circuits.
1) Assume everything is live.
2) Assume nothing.![]()

Is your inverter floating?
hehe i was shocked with that too.. it was for a max of 0.5 secs before the MRCB tripped.. but it felt like a whole minute..
