Modified/filtered sine-wave will do that to some PSU's. You're probably safe turning it on. Cheap PSU's will 'buzz' when it's trying to work off of modified sine-wave power. If this still freaks you out, you need a true sine-wave inverter.

when i plug my xbox into inverter it buzzes, when off!! didnt want to turn it on

true sine-wave inverters are a little pricey.
still a bit nervous about frying my xbox with
my cheapo inverter.![]()
just ground the case of the box to the same spot of the inverter...
it should go away...
ground is the key...

quick update - ok, i thought sack it, took the xbox down to the car and powered it up. it worked fine. still buzzes but as long as its not burning it, so what! Anyway xbox PSUs are cheap and easy to swap.
btw, icet, cheers mate but grounding the inside metal casing of the xbox to the same spot on the car body as the inverter didnt stop the psu buzzing but i guess that would help to cut interference like lines on the screen and humming speakers?
