300W Inverter, only works so often

I've got a 300W inverter powering the PC in my car. The only time the inverter powers up my computer is first thing in the morning when I havent' used the car for about 8 hours.

If I drive off somewhere, get back into my car, switch on the engine, the computer will not power up at all. This happens all the time and does my head in. Its as though the battery has used up a lot of power when i've been driving that there isn't enough to power up the computer? I have even tried turning on the inverter after i've started the car, incase the surge from the engines causes the inverter to go into a 'safe mode' so to say.

Why is this the case, does anybody have any ideas? I'd be grateful for anyones help.

Cant think of anything other than possibly dodgy inverter/heat. Sounds more likely to be the inverter being dodgy. Does it get hot?

Is the inverter wired directly to the battery, or are you using a cigarette lighter? What gauge wires are you using? What make/model inverter do you have?

check the voltage of the battery when the engine is running, maybe your alternator is going bad.

It does not seem to be too hot. Just normal I'd say

Yeh the inverter is wired directly to the battery. Will act dumb here, but what are gauge wires? lol The inverter I bought was a 300w from maplins for about 20. Will have to check out the make/model.

ive got the 150W one from maplins, it was getting very hot and beeping, but now ive chucked a fan on it. Havent had any reliability issues other than that however.

    I'd say u had a dodgy inverter.

I think you could be right. Its just weird how it only comes on when I haven't used the car for a while. I just thought that it might be going into some safe mode?
