i got one with a carputer installed. granted im runnin a mini itx so im drawin alot less power, but i dont feel a drag at all.
Hi Guys,
Anyone notice a drag on the car when the carputer is on? I have a 2002 E46 and my car feels heavier when the carputer is on. It feels like there's a drag on the alternator or sometime but the car is definitely slower when the carputer is on. Anyone experiencing this, I know Gork and SRCSTC both have BMW, do you guys experience this? I'm using the 150W Opus with an Intel P4 and two PPI amps. Even without the amps it feels the same way.

You have 1200W of amplifiers, yet your 150W car computer is the one slowing your car down? I think you need to look at the wiring - make sure it isnt wrapped around your driveshaft :P

I have a carputer in my 328ci and I have not noticed any loss in power.

I'm not kidding guys. With just the carputer on and without the amps, I can still feel the drag. This is bugging the hell out of me. Looks like I'm the only one that is experiencing this. Hopefully someone will have some insight into this.

i doubt even a rolling road would notice the difference in output power caused by yr alternator needing more of the engines output to induce more current.
The only thing maybe something to do with OBD connection or some sort of wiring of yr carPC that interferes with the cars ECU/electronics. Esp. with all that wattage on yr amps 150W is going to do very little.

On the Opus I have had no problems. An invertor caused a lot more power to be sucked in but even so it wouldn't be noticable.
When the car is cold and idling, and you power up the Car PC, does the RPM increase more than about 1-2% ? That's about what I get - even the heated windscreen uses more than my Car PC. The only car item I have that makes any difference (And even so I don't know if it's a mental head thing) is the Air-con but most people would already agree that something like that uses tons of power.
