We should change the name of this forum to "opus power supplies". Anything else for a carputer seems to be useless. I had an ITPS and Morex...garbage. Won't survive crank etc etc etc. I've read a thousand posts about other PSUs and the last and final word about seems to be:
BUY AN OPUS
So please n00bs, do yourself a favour, don't attempt to save $75, save yourself a tonne of time and hassle and just buy a damn opus.

My new comment is to say that this product is to be
used in combination with a dc power supply, such as
a morex 60 etc. This product, the Carnetix CNX-P1260
is a 12v regulator that supplies 12v DC out at 5 amps with
a voltage range of 7-18v DC.
It is not a full ATX supply, but when used with a dc supply
such as the morex 60 then it could be a viable solution.

why buy a opus? Im running a 350 watt power supply with shutdown controller and it works fine, I survive the crank my voltage stays at like 13 volts I am running a full size motherboard, SB audigy, 64 Meg AGP vid card, and I can run my carputer for along time with the car off. so I ask you again, Why would u spend all that money on the opus?
Obviously an OPUS wouldn't really do much for you at this point. What an OPUS does is make your install much easier. Yes you can obtain the same exact functionality from an inverter ITPS setup, but it often, not always, brings a lot of headaches to do it that way. With an OPUS you don't have to worry about the shutdown controller, you don't have to worry whether you have a car that won't survive crank with an inverter, you don't have to worry whether you will get noise from it, and you don't have to worry if continous power draw will burn your cheap inverter out. Like most of the people on here I'm a DIY, so I will normally try to build stuff myself before I spend even a little bit more to get it already assembled, but after the troubles I had with my first inverter based carputer, I am quite happy with the $75 or so extra that the OPUS cost me for my second one. It's not so much that the OPUS works better then an inverter, its that it works the first time.Originally Posted by BigAl

Power Consumption my friend... That is what is the most important to me in a car enviroment. On an inverter+a ac power supply you get max 60% efficiency on the PSu and probably 70% on the inverter... The power loss is major. On an Opus you get 89-92% efficiency. Besides, why make 12V into 110V than back to 12V 5V 3.3V it doesnt make sense. For those who need more power Opus will soon have a 220W![]()
heywire, what do you want for that pw70 and itps? PM me please!
