nobody has had any troubles like this with their opus? I guess I'll have to send it back to MP3Car store![]()
Well, I ditched the pw-70a and ITPS for the 90W opus...and I must say, I love being able to run the system with the car off and during crank. But one major problem... when I turn off the car, the PSU doesn't always initiate a shutdown (hibernate). Even unplugging the accessory wire for the opus doesn't work. Anyone know what could be happening? At first it was working fine, but after a day or so I noticed that my computer was staying on when I got out of the car.
I am running a v10000a mobo (1GHz), 3.5" maxtor 80gig drive and there are currently no jumpers set on the psu.
Thanks!

What is the diagnostic LED on the OPUS doing during this time?
When I remove 12v from the "accessory" lead of the opus, there is no change in the LED. Solid on, just as if I never touched the accessory lead. I can recreate this problem every time either inside on my bench PSU or in the car. I have noticed that if I replace the jumper on the "standby power" setting, it at least works some of the time. If that jumper is removed, I am completely unable to "trigger" the PSU into shutting down. The opposite is not true however. The "accessory" lead works perfectly when I apply power to it when the computer is powered down. I apply power, then 5-10 seconds later the computer powers on.
With no jumpers on the supply the Opus should remove power once the computer has shut down and should send the shutdown signal within 10 seconds of turning the ignition off.
I had a similar problem to you and found that hibernation somehow got disabled in win2k. I re-enabled and all is fine. Maybe worth checking.
Other thing to look at is power on interupt. The computer can power up even with the ignition off. e.g. I can touch the touch screen and my computer will power up for a while before shutting down again (around 20 minutes). Perhaps something is triggering your computer to remain active?

Also, unplug all USB devices and try it, some people have needed to update touchscreen, gps, etc drivers because they prevented the computer from going to standby. I also had the same problem and discovered that the new NetStumbler actively prevents a computer from going to standby.
I have already emailed opus, but have not received a response yet.
The thing about this is that while the computer "should" be powering down or going into standby, I can unplug the 2 wire "power switch" connector and plug a regular power switch in there, bump it, and the system shuts down right then. This setup worked flawlessly with the itps, with the exception of when my car's voltage dipped too low... I have disabled all power on irq/kbd/etc. Thanks for your help guys... I'll mess with it for another day or so... If I can't get it, I'll just get another one.
i had this problem too but i just assumed it was my motherboard, i didnt really do extensive testing, the opus stopped working completly so it has since been sent back, hoping i'll get a new one sometime soon

Well, I guess I should not have used the power supply. I was cranking the engine today (had just fueled up and had left the carputer on), and started smelling something hot. I looked into my console where the computer enclosure is located, and there was smoke coming out! I quickly pulled the power plug from the computer, but it appears that my motherboard is a goner. Everything else seems fine, and I can't find any burnt components, but the motherboard won't even power up with my ATX power supply inside. The HDD appears to be fine, however. I am currently waiting on my email back from Opus about replacing the motherboard and power supply. I guess I must have received one of the defective units that were talked about on this site a while back
