Can Opus freeze windows?

Okay...I still haven't figured out my random freeze problems. I replaced the entire computer, same problem. Here's my latest findings:

I run the computer for 2 days straight at home using ac power with no problems at all.

Next, I swapped the ac psu with opus and start the computer in car. The computer freezes as soon as it boots...(right after login screen) Sometimes it goes on for little longer, but it freezes randomly.

The car was parked, tested at night (70 degrees), and only a keyboard and monitor was hooked up (both with ac psu and opus)

Can anyone confirm if OPUS can be held responsible for this nature. I've tried replacing everything...any help would be greatily appreciated

Yeah, a bad or underpower PS can cause that to happen. You didn't tell us what kind of motherboard/proc you're running. There are some known incompatibilities between Opus and some mb's.

I don't know the exact mb's i'm using. The first computer i tried was a microatx with athlon 1ghz. The second computer has the ECS mb (not sure exact mb, hv to look it up once I get home) with P4 2.4ghz. I may just buy an epia m10000 once I know that mb is the problem.

You might be drawing too much power, try underclocking the processor and reducing the voltage a tadge. If you are using a hefty graphics card try downgrading to something less power hungry.

We really need more details of your system. HDD/DVD type? Other components?

Mine had to do with cranking.... Windows would freeze when if i cranked the engine while the computer was on. I would hear the hard drive spin down and wondows would freeze. The odd thing is that the workaround is i would have to turn off the car then crank the engine again and I would hear the hard drive spin back up and windows would unfreeze. All my cranking problems have been resolved ever since i replaced my car battery with an Optima Yellowtop.

Meetmandeep it definitly sounds like a power issue. Are you using the Opus 90 or Opus 150?

Post more info on your complete setup Damnit!

My first hunch is you've got too little power from your Opus for your M/B & CPU. P4's suck lots of power. Try a Celeron in the same M/B.

That said, I've never had a positive impression of ECS boards... Lots of people I know have had them and there's a pretty high failure rate... That's just my personal experience...

What else do you have powered by the Opus (HDD, optical, sound, USB hubs, etc.)?
Not that anyone else has asked this...

Okay,
finally after troubleshooting for over a month I figure that OPUS is to blame. I can run my carputer on inverter (250W) with AC PSU for days without any problem. However, as soon as I put in OPUS 150W, windows freezes.

Sometimes windows will not go past the welcome screen and I will lose signal. At other times, it loads desktop partially and freezes. And of course, there are random freezes when using OPUS.

I've tried two different machines (p4 2.4 and athlong 1ghz) with same symptoms.

I gave Kris a call and he's asked me to bring it in so he could take a look. At this point, I'm thinking either the OPUS is actually bad or there's a compatibility issue between both of my MBs.

Any insights?

Edit: Btw, I'm only powering a regular 20gb harddrive off the computer with a keyboard. There are no peripherals attached. I've also disabled all built in devices like serial, parallel, sound...etc
I know this is not a power issue (shortage) or a heat issue...

Have you checked your output voltages (on the opus) under load with a multimeter? I had a DC-DC PSU that did the same thing, after a few minutes it would get hot, the 5v rail would drop to around 4.3-4.4 volts and my machine would lock up.... Ended up replacing the PSU with a better unit (opus actually). Maybe its worth a shot to look... although it sounds as though you've got it narrowed down to your opus anyways. Good Luck!
