High power PSU with shutdown controller

I want to have a powerful computer system in my car. A 150watt opus for sure will not provide enough juice. If I use a power inverter to power my computer, will I still be able to hook up a shutdown controller ? I can allow my car to stay on for a certain time afte I remove the key, much like a turbo timer.

Say I get a ITPS and only hook it up to the computer switch. When I remove my key it will trigger the ITPS to push the power button on my PC thus making it to hibernate. After a certain amount of time my car will turn off and cut the power to the computer after it finishes hibernation. Will this work ?

Another question is, does ITPS pushes the power button to turn on the PC as well ? or do I have to set my PC to "turn on upon power" ?

Currently is there any high power (300watt + ) 12v PSU with shutdown controller ? I have searched all over the place and still could not find one. I know it is stupid to convert 12v to 110v with a power converter and back to 12v with the PSU, but so far that's the only solution i could find to provide enough power for my computer.

with type of system do you want power with more than 300 watt.. :confused:

It always easy to jump over the lowest point.. (easy to use lot off power)

why go the way where to make a system with low power use

My planned system consist of a P4 3.0 ghz or higher, 1g ramm, multiple harddrive, dvd writer, Audigy 2 pro and ATI all in wonder 9800 pro card and many other accessories such as camera, GPS, mouse, touch screen, etc etc. . And why do I want such a high power system in my vehicle ? It's a show vehicle, so more is better.

So anyone know my idea would work ? Anyone have even better suggestion ?

To transfer a system as tells you auto I think both' one not good idea.
You will surely have problems in the food everything.
I think you is able suffered to exclude a DC-DC as feeding.
He thinks about using inverter DC-AC, but if the 300W that they serve you they are those real, also to make to work not correctly a proper inverter for that in demand power and' easy.
You will surely have problems of planning of feeding.........
I would lower the CPU, in auto an EPIA works very well, I don't see the utility' of a based system on a P4 to 3.0 Gz....

I have a P4 3.0GHz system but underclocked at 2,5Ghz@1,36v core!!!

I have an Opus (150w)... My system uses just 7 amps.. which is about 84W... Pretty well!!

Normas PSU are not as efficient as 12VDC PSUs as Opus!!!
Beleive you will be OK!!! If you want more power then put 2 Opus in there with a relay to trigger on!!!:) Or just an Opus and another regulated DC psu with no shutdown controller for your HDDs, DVD or even the extra power you graphic card may need!!!

I have thought about the OPUS with another regulated PSU. Which regulated PSU would you recommend ? I have searched all around the place with all different info but still could not come up with a good one.

Also, for your P4 3.0ghz system, what other components do you have to have it run at 84W ?

I'm currently running a P4 3.2ghz HT, 1.5gb ram, geforce2mx, full size 48x24x48 cdrw and slim hard drive off my Opus 150. It's right on the line, I think. I'm thinking of swapping back to the 2.8ghz and underclocking it, and removing memory. This is just a test setup anyway, I plan to cut down to 512mb and at least 2.8ghz soon, and get a slim dvd. But for now, this crazy setup DOES work :)

Sadly, I'm not sure if it would work with a big new video card. I have a ti4600 but I dare not pop it in...video cards are big power hogs.

If I'm not mistaken, Mastero is selling 250w DC-DC supplies, you should have a chat with him and see if he thinks one of those would have enough juice.

Man I don't know why you need such a powerfull system in the car.
Anyway look for the total power needed for the system per each rail. Like how many amp is needed for 3.3 volt, 5.0 volt and 12 volt. After you figure that number, look at the PSU to see how many amps on those rail the PSU output.
The latest PSU from Mastero has 10Amps on each rail (3.3Vx10A + 5.0Vx10A + 12Vx10A + 5VSBx5A) that is more than 220W.
You can email Mastero or Opus to see if their PSU can power your configuration.

If you want to use inverer with SDC, you should use the SDC to control the ON/OFF switch of the inverter. By that I mean use the SDC as a switch for an inverter either parallel or in series with the inverter's ON/OFF switch.

Suppose I connect the ITPS exactly as it should except that the wires that are supposed to go to the PSU will go to a relay which would then turn on my power inverter connected directly to the battery.

When I turn off my car, does the ITPS trigger my computer to shutdown, and keep my power inverter on for 45s ?

If i have a switch that would keep the ITPS on while my engine is off, when I crank my engine and the voltage drop to around 10v, will the ITPS still be able to keep the relay of my power inverter on thus keeping my computer on ?

4 USB devices (but will be using one self-powered hub too)

NowI am still testing at home!!
I will be hardwiring my xenarc to the Opus too!!
