    Idea for quicker startups

I don't know if anyone has thought of this already, but I didn't see any posts when I did a couple searches, so here goes.

For people who have setups that can survive a crank, how about making a connection with the pin switch for the driver's side door? If the computer starts up when the door is opened, I'd imagine that would get things started about 5 seconds earlier than when you put the key in the ignition. I thought of this after reading a post that suggested making a connection between your car alarm and your carputer...but the idea was shut down because someone said not everyone had an alarm. I still think the alarm idea is great, or else maybe even just remote locks, because...who doesn't have those anymore?

btw...I haven't even begun building my carputer yet because I hate my car! I've just been floating around this place and doing a lot of reading. What I'm saying is that I'm a noob, so sorry if these ideas have been brought up before or if they're just not feasible.

That's a good idea, hooked up to a car alarm...I might try that, although it doesn't take that long to start up (about 20 seconds)...

I hate my car also, the space required to work on this carputer was hell on my car, but I managed to fit everything behind the radio area...very tight...

Might be a little difficult to use. If you have to open your car door after getting in it would shut down your PC.

With a little more knowledge than I have...would it be possible to set up so that once the computer starts from the door being opened, it wouldn't shutdown within a set time limit? Perhaps 30 mins? Or maybe something more complex where it wouldn't shutdown until the car had been started and then the key was again removed.

Me neither, I took the keyfob off my keyring because it kept opening the trunk from inside my pocket inside the house. Stupid button is too sensitive...

it would be quite easy to rig up a relay, so once the door is opened, the relay would latch and turn the PC on, you could then have a couple more relays so it would shut down when you take the key out and open/close the door to get out. But I think I will stick to my opus for this.

i used to have mine connected to my remote locking/alarm, i know a few other people have done this too, the biggest drawback is if you go to your car to get something/put something there the computer will startup. but yeah i implemented that almost a year ago and i'm sure i wasnt the first one, i didnt have any failsafe way to make sure the computer properly shut down so once or twice the computer booted, refused to shutdown, and drained my battery

I suppose that's a good reason to use an Opus, nowadays.
