You can pick up cube timers for about $25 at electronics store (not radioshack). But damn man, that's a lot of bucks.Quote:

The second relay that shorts com pins 4 and 8, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's sole purpose is to provide a safer 5v to pin 8 as opposed to receiving 12v if pin 8 was wired to the IGN directly. Correct?
Otherwise they are identical in purpose and function. Yes?
UPDATED: I just updated the diagram to what (I think) is right now.
Notes: The phone hookups just pass the:
1. comp +
2. comp -
3. com pin 4
4. com pin 5
from the computer to the main hookup (the little plastic box). The box is connected to the:
1. ignition +
2. Car Ground for ig.
3. inverter switch +
4. inverter switch -
As well as the phone cord to the comp.
This setup puts virtually no power through relays (just enough to switch them), therefore a .5 or 1 amp relay will work just fine (both of which i used). I used: Relay 1 and Relay 2
They are interchangeable and you can use both for both applications (my radio shack only had 1 1 amp and more .5 amp's)

I don't know the exact function of pins 4 and 8, but i would not connect a 12v lead to the com port, it will probably fry it. The little shutdown program is made specifically for the pins 4 and 8 to be shorted, not a 12v lead or another lead.
another note: the shutdown program must be set to the inverse for this to work, not reguler.
Thanks, this helps. That's also the same relay I am using. 3 questions:
1. So you have the power coming from the molex connector of the PC and going to the inverter relay because that way if EITHER the IGN is on OR the PC is still on (still shutting down from software app), then the Inverter will remain on. Right?
2. Looking back over my problem, what could be causing my inverter to go into overload mode when I plug in the pc to it. I have my .5amp relay wired just as yours. Maybe my ground is still not clean enough.
3. What are the exact diodes you are using from radioshack? Zener Diodes of what specs?

1. Correct. Make sure to use diode so ig power doesn't go down comp line or vice versa
2. I'm not positve, but try a smaller ac thing (to make sure pc isn't drawing too much power). Also try hooking the other end of the coil as the ignition to the same ground as the ignition (idk where you got the wire, but i got mine from radio harness, and used a ground on it). I'm not quite sure what wires you have hooked where on the relay though.

that is exactly what i did for mine.
