Running power to fuse box from battery....

What could go wrong? I have a morex 80w power kit. It comes with a voltage regulator. This is the plan. I want to run a wire from my battery to the fuse box. From the fuse box I want to run another wire to a switch. The switch has a wire that runs from it and splices into a 4 way cigarette lighter plug thingie (that's a technical term). The cigarette lighter thingie will have the morex and my lilliput plugged into it. The reason is that my cigarette lighter plug is only on when my car is on. I want to be able to have my computer on when the car is off by toggling the switch. Please don't tell me to get an Opus. I will eventually buy one, but for now it's not in the budget.

This is pretty much the last piece I have to figure out before my install. If this won't work then I can live with having to turn the car on to run my carputer.

Your car could catch fire? Seriously. If the wires in the cigarette lighter thing are not up to snuff they could get a little warm. You might be OK, but be careful.

Got it...I'll double check the wires to make sure that they aren't crappy ones.

Skip the fuse box and run the wire directly from your battery with an inline fuse of course. Having a large draw on your electrical system can do weird things to your car's computer (and I don't mean your MP3 computer). Get one of those 100-watt amp install kits that has the cable, inline fuse and stuff if you want to save yourself some time find the right size cables.

Why can't you just run power to your lilliput from your fuse box, rather than messing around with the cigarette lighter thing. I agree with Pip, that you should try to avoid the cigarette lighter thing. If it's anything like the ones I see in the stores, that blue glows in the dark and flashes (jk), I just plain wouldn't trust it w my exspensive screen and Morex (whatever that thing is).

I recommend you run power directly to an always hot fuse in your fuse box, through an extra in-line fuse. I don't understand why you would want to run another wire from the battery to your fuse box....are all your hot wires in your fuse box already tapped into?
