Question Inexpensive DC-DC power supply for 12V only?

    Hello.

Does anyone know a good inexpensive DC-DC power supply I can use to power up a 12V monitor? Its maximum power drain is 3A, nomimal is around 1A. The power supply must be able to work from 11V to 15V.

Would I be able to use PW60a for this purpose? I'm worried about the input voltage range. I can make it constant-on so it supplies power I need to.

You could try to just hook the screen directly to your car's power system.
I'm not sure what you are looking for tho....
something for your car? or something to run the screen in your home?

In terms of car - I just wired mine directly into my car's system (through an inline fuse of course).

I don't want to take a risk of frying $500+ 10.4" LCD, so I'd like to get something to provide stable 12V. I just ran to the radio shaft and got a so-called 12V adapter. That thing turned out to be only a bunch of wire with an in-line fuse. Doesn't do me any good.
Going to see what else is available at Walmart, etc...

Oh, well, I just said screw it and looked up a nice 9V-18V to 12V DC-DC power supply I put my eye on a few months ago, thinking it could be useful for just such application. It's going to cost me $60, but it'll get the job done right.

$60???? Damn! Go to Radioshack and get the generic one. I believe it's less than $20.

You would be better off with a CNX-P1260 (if you could ever get one)

As usual, RadioShaft was of no help. If only they knew what they were selling. There was no time to screw around.

I needed that thing Yesterday, hence the higher price, which included next day shipping. The unit I got worked perfectly in the environment I needed it to.

CNX-P1260 may have been used, but there was no need for a shut-down controller and I needed it ASAP.

I got a unit manufactured by MeanWell, model number SD-25A-12 (VDC IN: 9.2V ~ 18V; VDC Out: 12V/2.1A). It worked perfectly. On my testbench, it went as low as 7V before shutting down with a 7" test monitor connected to it.
