when an Opus kills the power...

Does it kill it completly, or just to a standby level.

I know it has battery monitoring, but I don't want to even risk a dead battery over winter, as I'm sure I've seen people say that in the past the opus hasn't worked as a battery saver.

if it even keeps minimal feed to the PSU, I might need to break the live line with a relay, and trigger that with the ignition line that the Opus uses.
bugger that won't work either as the PC will just dump off rather than slowly shutdown, unless I could find something like a 10 minute delay timer relay.

With the 150watt OPUS, it will supply a 5v standby. For the 90watt, there is a jumper that you can set to have the 5v standby or not.

Personally I have a 150watt OPUS and have the 5v standby going to my motherboard all the time. I have never had a trouble with my car not starting. However I do not have any USB devices that get power from the motherboard, so there is only a very small draw when it's on standby.

It depends on which Opus you're talking about. I believe the 90W model does completely shut down the power when it is off. The 150W model however does continue to supply standby power on the 5v(?) rail per ATX specs. I think this has been discussed on many other threads. Most people haven't had a problem with the 150W draining their battery but I'm not exactly sure how much the cold weather would affect you. Don't have that problem in sunny California A lot of it may depend on how often you drive the car and the condition of your battery to begin with.

Hmm, I'll give it a go then. It's the 150watt I bought as I have a 3.5" HDD, and plan on powering the TFT as well.

Also, I do have USB GPS and Bluetooth. Was going to go with a Dlink USB radio, but instead I'm going to use a WinTVPVR and Radiator if I can, or Axife lite.

If the standby power was really an issue, couldn't you splice a relay into the 5v line going IN to the mobo? Just a thought.

I just came this morning to find that my opus 90w had arrived in the mail today. WooHoo!!! Excited is me!!!!

Yes you can and there are already 2 threads with the solution for how to do this.

I can vouch for the solution of cutting the power to the mobo that Rando worked on. It solves the problem with the OPUS 150 supplying standby power to the mobo and USB devices while the computer is "off".

The low power shutdown on the OPUS 150 only turns off the computer when the battery power is low, it will still provide standby power though. My USB devices drained my battery a few times before I followed Rando's mod.
