you are grtting a voltage drop, This can be caused by several things: wireing like you said, or a car power system that is not charging correctly.
Ok, right now, im running an ITPS with a 70watt power suppply.
When i went in my car to hook it up, i spliced all 3 wires into my current cd player wires.
Now, when I turn the car on, the motherboard starts, but the HD wont. I got a meter and checked the levels, heres what I got.
I just disconnected the 2 parts of the Y cable. Checked the end coming from the power supply. Red/black I get 4.7volts. Yellow/black i get 10.41 volts.
I then hooked them back up but unplugged the power connector going into my HD and checked that. I got the same levels. 4.7 and 10.41
I then go into my house and use my dekstops power supply to power the carpc and then HD boots up fine. Go to check levels now and they are 5.01 and 12.11.
So does the diffrence between 10.41 in the car and 12.11 at my house cause the HD to not power up?
IS it because im running the wires straight off my cd player wires? Should I get a dedicated line coming from the battery to my PC? But then thinking about it, the red/black combo is giving me 4.71 in the car, 5.01 in the house, not a huge difference.
The bigger difference is coming from the REM wire. IN the car im getting 10.41 and in the house im getting 12.11. Is there some special way I should plug into that wire in my car?
PS. If I buy an OPUS 150, do I need the power supply and or ITPS I currently have?

But are you saying that the
4.71 to 5.01
10.41 to 12.11
that those 2 difference in power are causing my HD not to power on?
The 10.41 is way out of tolerance. That needs to be much nearer 12v. That low voltage will cause your hard drive not to spin up.
The 4.71 is probably close enough to 5v.
