Thread: Why do my peripherals stay on when OPUS is off?

I couldn't explain it, but it sounds normal.

I see two potential problems with it doing it:

1) Theft issue (because of the bright blue keyboard on my dash)
2) running down my battery (not sure if that's a real issue)

this has been covered a million times, the opus 150w dosent cut power to the 5v standby rail, which is what the motherboard uses to feed usb devices, or something along those lines anyway (its part of the ATX specifications)

So you're telling me... without rigging up a relay to cut off the constant 12v, I'm SOL.

i use another method

I don't use the back panel USB connectors, I have 4 onboard USB headers which i used but pulling the power from 5V rail from the PSU. This way, the power will be cut when the comp shuts down.

if u don't have onboard USB header, abit more work, but similar way. Hack a usb cable to run out the red and white wire (power) and hook it up to the normal 5V rail on your PSU. use this to connect to your device

of coz this only resolve the USB issue.

the standby power is there to allow the MB to wake up, as specify by ATX specification. The power draw is usually minimal unless your USB devices starts to pull from it. and the theft issue is real

pretty much, yes

but the relay is easy to build



i had never touched a relay before in my life and managed to build the proper setup and have it work on my first try

Does the 90w Opus do the same thing with not cutting power to the 5v rail? I need to know because I will be starting my install this weekend.
