    Laser printer in the car

Hi, I need some help here. Friend wants to install a laser printer in the car. So we though about using a invertor or capicator so it won't cause any problems with the car. Called the dealership and they said NO. So what am I left to do. I am thinking maybe there is some kind of battery pack that charges over time thru the cig lighter and loads up a battery pack to be able to handle the sudden large draw of power.

I recall that laser printers pull a significant current.. I'd be impressed to learn that any given inverter could supply that kind of current.

are inkjets out of the question?

Check the power usage of the printer, then go and buy an inverter which is above those specs (make sure when getting the inverter you look at the sustained power, not peak) and wire it directly to the battery of the car.

Half of the people at the dealership probably don't know the difference between their *** and their elbow (if it's anything like the place my dad used to work at), let alone doing something with the electrical system in the car.

    LOL
man I have no idea how to handle this one. I would assume you may be able to run it for short print job easily enough off an inverter. Then again I am not familiar with the power draw of a laser printer.

You can buy big invertors for lots of $$$. I have also seen generator ones, basically a 12v motor direct couples to a 120v generator. Saw one in an auto glass van to run a huge shopvac. You will expect to spend a $1000 or two for ones big enough to run a laser printer. Start looking at RV places, they have ones that can run microwaves, washing machines, etc.

I have seen it done, I hired a guy to jackhammer my kitchen floor so I could run a new drain line (I weight less than a jackhammer so I needed someone bigger than me), stupid house built on a solid cement slab. He had a big Ford F350 box truck. The back had a workbench one side and he had a laptop and inkjet printer there and printed my invoice right there. I picked up a little HP350 for $5.50 and carried it in my truck for a while and could take it to customer sites to print stuff.

I think a laser printer draws huge current when the fuser is heating, it's huge like at least 600 watts.

Eugenen - I know I hate concrete slab floors also. I love basements, but here in California basements do not exist. I don't understand that in Ohio, however. My parents live in Wisconsin, and they have a basement.
