    opus price

why is the opus 150w so expensive? inverters and ac-dc power supplys have more to them but i can buy a 1200w inverter or a 500w quality ac dc atx power supply for under $100.

are they just buckin us cause theres almost no competition?

dc to dc with regulation should be somewhat simple and cheap i'd think..

anyone that has looked into making a power supply with these kind of features will tell you that it is not easy. I'm sure that there is a lot of parts in the PSU that are custom built for Opus. Of course that means money. Also the fact that the incar PC market is relatively quite small doesn't help.
Don't forget, this is also the best professional product on the market. Of course it will always cost a little more.

I imagine alot of it is volume related. Standard ATX power supplies are dirt cheap considering what they do, because the huge volume, competition, and manufacture in China. Inverters not quite so, but they are still very much commodity.

Is it more expensive because there is almost no competition? Of course. But we wouldn't be buying it if the product wasn't worth it.

    p.s.
I actually think it's pretty reasonable considering. I think their primary market was like police cruisers, and they could probably get away with charging twice what they are.

its because they dont mass produce copious amounts, this in itself makes the cost per unit more expensive, plus they have to factor in there somewhere design and development costs

Don't forget, it also has timer circuitry to control when to shut down, can keep your system running when cranking the engine, the 90 can also control amps, etc.

    Supply and demand, brother...
There's a HUGE demand for AC-DC ATX power supplies. There is a very small demand for DC-DC ATX power supplies.

You should have paid attention in Economics 101.
Have you looked in the FAQ yet?
    How about the Wiki?

Actually, according to the simplistic Economics 101, higher demand means higher prices, lower demand means lower prices. By that logic, the Opus should be cheaper than standard supplies .
