Using existing amp wiring for OPUS/Inverter?

After months of planning, I'm actually going to start installing my carputer this weekend. Now here comes questions about the details. I'm going to have somebody install an amp into my car. I understand that they typically wire power cables directly from the battery or the distibutor cap to the amp. Should I tell them to run two sets of cables (one for the OPUS, one to the amp), or will I just be able to tap the existing amp cables to run to my OPUS/inverter? Phase I of my project will use an inverter since I have one handy, and then I'll move up to the opus. I believe they use the same wiring, so after I put the wiring in, it won't matter if I use an OPUS or an inverter.

Depends on the guage of wiring used. Since you're going to be installing the opus later, you're going to want to take car of the wiring now while the guy is going to be doing it anyway to save yourself the trouble. Ask him what size he runs, and then tell him what you're planning and ask if you could just use a distribution block, or would he suggest a second wire, or he might use something bigger to only have to run one.

I'll probably use 4g or 8g wire. Should I just run one set of cable from the battery to passenger compartment, and then once there, tap it somehow to the OPUS (Opus will be in rear passenger area), and then allow the remainder of the cable to go to the amp in the trunk? What's the best way to split a power cable?
