I have a M10000 with 5400 rpm notebook drive, dvd rom, sound output, and it will power a mouse gps and maybe a usb network card.
My goal is to have the carputer startup with the ignition and then shut off after i turn the car off after a minute or 2
I have tried reading as much as possible, i know the pw-70a is for these small pc's, but then i read everyone puching the bigger opus supples. I'm pretty sure I need an ITPS for the startup/shutdown procedure. Does the bigger OPUS power supplies have them built in? It just seems there is confusing information on what is recommended.
EPoX mATX SocketA w/onboard Geforce4MX / 512MB PC2700 / AthlonXP 1600
Lilliput / DVDrom / Opus 150W / WD 3.5" 160GB / SB Audigy NX
XP home / Road Runner / iGuidance 4.0
Get an opus 150w, it does everything you need: will provide enough power, startup and shutdown (no need for ITPS), and monitor the battery to make sure that you are flattening itOriginally Posted by tjb1231
Also it will allow you to upgrade your components easily to something like a P4 board.
The OPUS 90 watt would work well with this setup. http://www.mp3car.com/store/product_...products_id=30Originally Posted by tjb1231
Not sure why would you need more power for the config like yours. Simple math shows ~40W, which is fine with ITPS/PW-70. You don't even need 70A which is more expensive.
ITPS can feed up to 170W, but they recommend 72W max @17V.

I know I'm going to get flamed for this...
My brother uses a Casetronic Mini ITX 2699R which comes with a 60 watt psu. Now, it says 12v DC input, however, if you look at the AC power brick, it says 12-14 volts output @ 5amps. That doesn't seem very regulated to me, so we decided it should be safe to directly connect the PC up to the car's battery.
His car outputs 14.1volts while running. He has been using this setup for 4 months now, no problems. I don't gaurantee you won't have problems, but he doesn't so far. And he uses a separate startup shutdown power controller to handle the turning on and off of the PC.

200wRMS inverter (for the screen), CarPC Pro v2.4 Power Controller,
2 12" Pioneer Premiers, Sony 6x9s, Sony Xplode Class D mono block, Pheonix Gold A/B amp for highs
So the Opus have built in controlers for starting up and shutting down the computer with the ignition of the car?
