anyone????
Hi all,
I am fairly new to this scene, but I am a software developer and have been building PCs since '90. The only thing that I am not that good at is electrical (fraknly, it makes me a bit nervous)...
I have been reading here for a few weeks and am wondering if it would be recommended to have a 300W inverter power my CarPC with an ITPS shutdown/bootup controller in the mix (obviously to control the shutdown and startup procedures)
Would this work??? Or do I need a DC/DC power supply like an Opus?
Thanks.
anyone????
I use an invertor, but I also have a laptop, No auto shutdown/startup/cold start.
ITPS has it ,but alot of guys have gone to the opus.
Invertor is not bad, but most will not survive a engine crank, so when you have to get gas or something, you would have to hibernate/shutdown, which can get old real quick.
hi, i have ordered an itps after about 6 months of having a carpc and using an 100W inverter powered through cigarette lighter. was gettin sick of this cos was gettin a lot of blown fuses. anyway i thought that the point of the itps is that you no longer need an inverter. the itps connects to a car power wire and the other end goes onto the psu of the pc and the atx connecter onto the atx connection on motherboard.
btw great forum, only found out about it yesterday :s
Most would agree that the Opus is a good solution.
There would be no issue using the ITPS to both turn on and off the power to the inverter, and also to send on/off signals to the MB.
note you will likly want to bypass the 12V regulation of the ITPS if you are using an inverter.Code:+12V---->ITPS---->Inverter---->Standard PS---->PC |------------------------------------->PC On/Off Switch
Most people (myself included) do the following
Code:+12V---->ITPS---->DC-DC PS---->PC |----------------------->PC On/Off Switch
i thought the point of the itps was that you didn't need an inverter?
car --> itps --> pc psu
Depends on what PSU you're using...Originally Posted by sini

yep, agreed. sorry i forgot that there is another converter between mr. inverter and mr.pc on my setup therefore my psu is dc to dc.
$inverter + $ITPS + $Time + $Headache > $OPUS
Enough said!
