    Carnetix startup help

I've wired my Carnetix PSU to my Via Epia M1000 mobo and while it works, I've got a problem on start up. I'm using a DC power supply on the work bench to test it. Using a push button switch to simulate the ignition power, the Via starts up for about 3 seconds, then shuts down.

If I remove the ACPI wire, the system starts normally and runs fine off of the PSU. It's kind of like the system sends the start up signal and then sends it again and it shuts down.

    Any suggestions are appreciated.

Try reversing the ACPI pins. I don't have a Carnetix supply (but I know the guy who built it [hell, I introduced him to this industry]). As such, I'm not sure if you can just "swap" those pins or not, but if it's shutting down immediately after starting it's either an ACPI issue; OR most likely your bench isn't providing enough power.

    just my .02 cents.

    Bugbyte,

Could you show us a diagram of your test setup? The ignition needs to be constant and not momentary (ie can't us a momentary push-button on ignition). You CAN use a momentary on Pulse-Start.

Here it is. I'm using an SPST switch. No momentary contact.

Side note - it doesn't seem like the unit waits 3 seconds before powering the PC on. It's pretty near instant.

Can you define "shuts down". Is it the normal shutdown "sequence" (ie blinking led for 30 seconds or more, the PC shuts down, then power disabled out of P1260) or is it a hard shutdown 3 seconds after power is applied to your PC? If its a hard shutdown, it sounds like power is being abruptly removed from your PC and it is not the ACPI. I just don't know why removing the ACPI connection would change anything.

Can you measure +12V at the output of the P1260 after your PC shuts down?

Well, believe it or not Chris Bergeron's advice to switch the ACPI leads worked. It's functioning perfectly. Thanks for giving me the help and advice!

Time to try it in the car...
