if the unit senses less than 11 volts for more than a minute it will shut everything down, including the 5vrail.....when it senses more than 11v for more than a minute it will start it back up again....

got mine in teh mail yesterday, will hopefully have it ready to install and test out this weekend

Also, mention what you use now as I didn't see it on your page...

I know my setup would be at the max of this psu, Has anywone pushed the psu to the max to see what it is capable of?

Currently my setup is as follows:
    biostar m7nc400
    512 ram
    1700 xp
    120 gig Hitachi HD
    gps mouse
    USB hub
    2x20 LCD

I figure with the new Chip Ill be able to get it down to the 90 watt mark. Any insight as to how this psu may handle under this load?
I have not used this with a 3.5in drive. I am not ruuning my xenarc off it.

in my experiences, this is not enough to start a car. And consistently drainin to this point (unless you have a deep cycle battery) will lead to a permanently dead battery.

As far as I know, the Opus 150W NEVER shuts down the +5VSB rail, even if the low voltage (10V) threshold has been reached. The threshold only applies to the other power rails. Thus if given a chance, it will continue to drain your battery until it drops below the minimum required for the Opus to function (I'm guessing ~7-8V).

In any case, if you don't want this behavior there is a thread in the forums with a work around. It involves only a standard automotive relay and a few diodes. Ultimately it doesn't add much to the complexity of wiring it up.

    That's my understanding as well.
Only the 90watt opus and the soon to be 220watt opus will do this...

so from what i understand, i do not have to be concerned w/the power drain of a usb device that is plugged in because the 5svb will shut down after a certain amount of time, and even if it doesnt, the power will completely get cut if the battery drains?
There's different settings for the shutdown timing and power off situations. Default is 2 hours after key-off and it'll shut down the 5Vsb, but this can be changed to 'Never', in which case it'll keep the memory 'warm' (for resume from standby) until it detects 11V or less, at which point it'll kill the 5Vsb to save the battery.
