    Electronic GURUS *HELP*

    Ok, so I did not get any response to my Xenarc USB Power cable, so I am posting some pictures here.

    Front:

    Back:

    USB:

    ALSO, is there anything that I need to worry about. I figure this would be the same as hard wiring to the 12V rail but provides a nicer interface.

    Thanks

    Alright at first read I thought you wanted to power your Xenarc from the USB port but after reading your first topic I don't see any problems with your idea....except it seems kind of pointless and unsafe even. Imagine accidently plugging that usb cable into your pc or some other device.....BAM

    Why not just run the 2 wires like normal?

    Yea that would definately be crappy. I tried to use a different end, the B type (i cannot recall the exact type). The other end will be wired into the chopped cigarette adapter.

    The main reason is that I wanted some way to plug/unplug the Xenarc power from its' source, not just have it permanetly hardwired into the PC. That make sense?

    Yes, with a 9V battery, but tried to hook it up to an ATX power supply, and fried my PSU. I think I had something messed up on my mutlimeter end. Hence the reason I am trying to make sure everything is working.

    Biggest issue, I don't really feel like frying my $200 Opus

    Maybe put a fuse between molex and USB adapter card?

    Yes, if I actually plug the USB cable into the USB port on the computer. I have created a PCB with a USB and 3-pin power plug (like the ones used on the motherboard for fans). I plan on taking the 12V and ground from a molex, adding an adapter to connect it to the 3-pin. Then I will mount the PCB in my case, so all you will see is the USB plug (used a different type than standard USB port on motherboard). Kind of like what the pictures are showing.

    okay...i see... you should probably use some other type of cable and connector, because USB cables are only made to carry 5V more than that will fry a powersupply or start a fire on the cable itself, i would reccomend going to radioshack or some other electronic suppliers and take wire rated for 12v and create your own connector system, using the connectors they have, then just heat shrink it to look nice. If you need more details PM me

    Excuse me? I do know what im talking about.
    you cannot run 12V through a 5V cable at that many amps... OHMS LAW

    V(voltage)= I(current) R(resistance)
    5v = 25a (R)
    R = 5/25
    that gives you a resistance of .2 Ohms

    do a simple search...
