    Question opus restarts on potholes

O.K., I know it's hard to guess at what could cause this, but my computer reboots lately if I hit a nice sized pothole or big bump. The normal wiring issues you would initially expect wouldn't be the case here, as I soldered all of my connections & all of my wiring is proffesionally done (by me) I haven't had a chance to rip into it yet & thought I'd check here for input....

A secondary problem I'm having is that sometimes my computer doesn't boot right away, I could drive for say 15 min & then, all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, the computer will just boot on its own. I am running an opus 150....It seemed to start when it got really cold out, but I have even seen this on a few days that weren't really very cold also.... the ign signal is solid & definately not a cause of this problem...

I know I will have to tear into it to solve these problems but I am taking the lasy way out for now & asking opinions here since I,m sick with the flu & probably won't be able to play with this for a few days....

Could it be the gauge of the cables going from the battery to the Opus???

I got a few suggestions, definatly don't rule anything out even though you might be a professional installer you might overlook something as easy as a faulty connection !

I'd say we're all guilty of something like that though, I'll admit I've done similiar things. Sometimes easy problems would have been solved if I looked at the situation as if "somone else" did the installing that way I never assumed anything.

Initially, I was thinking faulty connection going to or from the OPUS. But then I was also thinking about the colder weather.. You might have a little bit of both going on !

Take Ur time and good luck !

I would check all the connections on both ends. Power and Ground to the OPUS and the PC side power to MB and all devices.

If you have expansion cards (PCI or AGP) reseat each of them and check the retaining devices for them.

If that does not find a loose wire I will be supprised... it takes time to check all that but it will be worth it.

Guys, I know you don't ever want to rule anything out as far as added on electrical wiring is concerned, but I know that it isn't a problem with the wiring to the opus, it is securely mounted, & is feed through a 10 gauge direct to the main battery that is soldered fused & grommeted at the firewall, it is grounded directly to the body & the ign feed is being fed through a pac interface that interfaces with the "retained accessory power" circiut in my vehicle, I know it is hard for you to be convinced that this isn't the culprit, but I'm RELATIVELY sure this isn't the issue here, just looking for other possible idea's........

wiring from the opus to the pc might be suspect, & I will look at the one added pci card & re-seat it. I suppose I might also try re-seating the ram too, although I don't think that could cause a re-boot, is it possible to be the seating of the processor itself?...

CPU is possible, based on your comments I would check it also.

    Hope you find it.

Found it, turned out to be a multi function panel on the usb buss, some $30 panel with memory card readers & temp/fan controls, looked pretty cool, but crapped out I guess, no more pothole restarts.......
