    car stereo from pc psu

    i am gettng as batch of car stereos in soon, and i have a spare pc psu .. id like to test these stereos in the comfort of home .. too cold here in uk .. so i was wondering if there was a way fo powering a head unit from a pc psu (red wire then black id have thought (plus any others like memory illum etc))

    thing is id like to be able to test car amps aswell

    anyone got the answer??

    I have been able to power car stereos from a old power supply, but dont expect to be able to do much as far as playing music. You would use the black and yellow wire from the PSU. Car amps draw way to much power for a PC PSU, for testing in the house I just bought a Sealed GEL battery for testing amps.

    If you are going to use an ATX power supply without it being in a system, make sure you cheat the POWER GOOD signal or it won't turn on.

    I don't know what kind of power supply you've been using, but all the ATX power supplies I've used, all you have to do is connect the PS-ON (usually green) to a ground, and it powers right up. Power good tells the motherboard that it's okay to fire up, but it has nothing to do with the output of the power supply as far as I know.
