Does anyone have the Xantrex XPower 400 inverter? If so, does it have an internal relay? I want to keep the unit in one piece, so I want to wire and additional switch to place up front. I just wanted to know if I need to get another relay or just use a 2/3 position switch

Well maybe no-one has it or people who do have it haven't seen your thread as not everyone is on here all the time or twals through new posts. Why not trying toOriginally Posted by Coeus
for people who have talked about it and PM them about your thread! Might be an idea before you go whinging.
Hey monkey,
Not whinning, just criticizing. Already searched, no go on my specific model. Got any other ideas?

, hopefully someone got some ideas, cause i don't really know.
Thanks monkey for your help,
This guy has one and talks about it a lot in his posts (got to public profile and click on find posts if you don't know) I doubt he has modded it as you want - you are the 1st!

Why don't you stop wasting time and take it apart. 1st thing i do wehn i get anything is take it apart to see if it can be improved/modified/used to do something else.....and see how it is made and how well it is made. From what i have read it donest cost much and i doubt you will knacker it taking apart unless you are really careless. Also did you search for other invertor mods other than your make?
Looing at the rest of your Q i would mount an external relay along with the fuse you have very close to the battery (you do have this i hope) and use that to turn the power on and off.
At the original time of the post, I did not have the actual inverter, so I was trying to gather information while I waited.
I have another post, with some pictures of the interior (here )... Just not sure what to do, since I am now EE wiz.
Might end up doing the relay situation, since I want the inverter to be moveable.
most people use relays. yOu dont really want a high current switch on your dash - thats why car manufacturers use relays. Also it keeps power wires very simple as all you have is the nice straight run of 8 guage (or more your inverter i guess) and a nice thin relay power switch wire to your dash area. And as you point out you want to be able to remove it so you dont want to go messing around with the insides. Good luck with it.Originally Posted by Coeus
Thanks, I think the relay might be the best idea, considering all other options. I'll let you know how it goes, hopefully later this weekend.
