Does inverter power cause audio and video interference, without computer on. HELP

I just installed everything, and everything was cool until I used the power from the inverter to the computer instead of a plug. The screen would flash on and off, and the screen would just look jacked up. I couldn't tell if there were any performance issues with the computer, but it didn't seem like it with the speed it booted up, and it made it to the final screen.

I have a 1000W XPower Xantrex inverter, with a 4 gauge wire running straight to the battery.

One test I did was to leave the computer and the inverter in the same place in the trunk, but use the power from an extension cord to see if there was any interference, and there wasn't. The only thing that was different was the power wire went from the inverter to the computer instead of from a regular plug. All the wires were in the same place.

Is it possible its my ground? Or is this a common thing. Damn this ****ed me off, I was done, everything was installed, and now this crap. Please help if you have any suggestions.

I think it could be the current draw on the battery. Try it with the engine on (if you are already, it might be that your alternator isn't up to the task(

1000W inverter!!!!! Bloody hell! Isn't that overkill? Am wondering if you would be better with a smaller inverter. That inverter needs like 70-80A to run at full power (if you hooked enough up to it)

guys, he didn't say it was 1000wrms, most likely it's only 500wrms, 1000watts peak

Nope, that would 1000rms, 2000 peak. It was 85 dollars so I figured I would play it safe. Im not running enough to need it and might downsize, don't know yet. I did run it with the car running, and got the same problem. The battery is pretty hefty, its in a newer big car. I am going to move my ground somewhere else and hopefully that will fix something, I can't think of anything else. I am sure my connections are solid, all except for the ground becaused it is connected to a screw that is connected to the frame. But now that I think about it, there is paint on that frame area not making good contact. My amp still works off the same ground, and the inverter ran, just badly. I will run some more tests.

Does an inverter put out some sort of frequency that I don't know about? I wouldn't imagine it would, and I have read about people using this inverter. I am going to price out a 500watt inverter, which I think would keep me on the safe side. I think everything I bought was wrong so far.

I don't think the inverter is your problem. Has to be the way it's wired unless of course the screen is getting power from the inverter and I haven't seen you type that. Also I don't think it matters the size inverter you get. If you have 1000 watt inverter and only require 200 watts to run your equipment I don't believe the inverter will still pull in a 1000 watts, but I honestly have no factual evidence to back that statement. My main point is this is most likely wiring. Make sure you have your inverter ground is in its own spot. Make sure the screen's ground point is no where near the inverter ground point. This will more than likely clear up your issues.

Maybe I am missing the basic rule of using an inverter. MY setup has the inverter sitting right next to the amp. And the computer is next to both of those, basically taking up the floor of the trunk. Check this out. I turn the key on, but not the car on so that the amp is power up. When I plug a power cord from the inverter to the computer, interference starts coming out of my speakers. Even though the computer is not on. If I switch the plug from the computer to an extension cord, the interference dissapears. Its like the power coming from the rectifier has some sort of wave that I don't know about, which is also affecting my screen. The screen is power up front, and not connected by anything to the rear except the VGA cable. With the power coming from the rectifier to the computer, there is interference.

Should I have my rectifier away from my amp or computer? Is there some rule? I cleaned up the area where I get my ground in the rear, and my power is fine. I can also run other things off of my rectifier, like a sander or drill, and the amp does not go crazy.

    Please help
