    Hmm. I might be able to use that effect to generate a momentary at power off. I see that the capacitor in your circuit can discharge through the other relay thus drawing current through the 'momentary' relay (unless the diode is present) and triggering a 'click'. It's not really a clamping diode as such then.

    D'Oh! The other relay! Maybe that's where the power was coming from? Well, I did manage to fix it at least.
