    Ignition Switch

    Hey,

In a couple of days I play of getting an EPIA M1000 board, which I plan to use in my car. I'm not too sure what power supply I should be getting - but I have been looking at a few as was wondering how you actually wire them to the car. I know how the black earth (-) and 12v (+) connect up, and could do that fine. The wire which is confusing me a little is the ignition one ( always recevies power) - I'm not sure how this would be connected to the car, and where. I've got a cig lighter power socket in the back of the car.. Would I be able to just strip the wire on that then connect the ignition wire up to that?

    Thanks

it depends if the ciggy lighter is only on when the ign is on or not. Plug summit in with your keys not in the ign and see if it comes on. Normally you run the ign lead off the back of your stereo ISO connector. I think it is pin 7 or summit - you can find out on here somewhere or in your car handbook in the radio section.

try asking on your own car brand forum or post the car you have on here

On Audi`s and some VW`s there are a few bolts under the trim (for future searches best one islabeled 75x) by the steering wheel which are ignition only- you may have summat similar.

Or see where your headunit ignition wire goes to if applicable and trace it to the fusebox perhaps

    Hey,

Cig lighter is on regardless of whether ignition is on - I know because I had an adaptor for it which had an LED which turned on when the adaptor moved, and one night the light stayed on when the car was off!

Another quick question I would just like to check .. If you get an opus power supply it means that a shutdown controller is not needed right? Since it does shutdown/statup.

    Thanks.

the opus has shutdown controller built in so you are right - you don't have to buy one.

    Alrite thanks.

Btw out of interest how long are the wires you get with the OPUS power supply - I mean ground and ignition wire wouldn't need to be very long for connection if carputer was in the boot, but the main 12v power supply would be coming from a relay in the front dash area - so that would mean wire would have to be long :|

    Thanks

Is your car American or European?

If it's American, it's likely that the cigarette lighter in the trunk turns off when you take the key out.

If it's European, it's likely that the cigarette lighter stays on all the time (I know it does in VW's).

    Hope this helps...
