    possible opus alternative?

considering my carpc will probably need more than 150w and the opus' are expensive as it is (good reason though), im trying to find an alternative. just wondering what you guys think of this setup as far as power is concerned:

ITPS cannot handle 200Watts (not even 100watts sustained).
I suggest calculating the real power consumption before you buy 'big' power supplies. Often times, total power consumption for a P4 system is < 120 Watts.

Just keep in mind that P4 machines require a lot of current on the 12V rail, usually around 5-8A, depending on your processor type and speed.

Intalling a P4 system in a car is a bad idea, please note that cars are very hot enviroments....

id love to believe that, because then id simply go with a 150w opus and get it all over wit. but from the numerous power calculator's ive used, the power usage rating on this system (trimmed down to basic carpc components) has , for the majority of the time, been up around the 180/190 mark. lowest ive gotten is 120w and thats with a 70% usage rating as noted by the one calculator.

btw, this is not a straight P4 system. it is a Celeron, but its p4 based iirc.

I disagree. I've used a P4 for a few years in my car now, and I have not had ANY problems. Why everyone thinks this I'll never know...

Oh yeah, and here in New Mexico, summers reach upwards of 100 to 120 degrees. I can only imagine how hot it gets IN the car. And the P4 is still chuggin' along. This ain't no mobile CPU either...

EDIT: Oh yeah, and it's crammed in my dash, where I'm sure the hot air doesn't circulate very well either.

Take a guess at what is what and tell us what you think

An unmodified ITPS provides only 60W of regulated power. There is no way you'd find me using unregulated power into my CarPC, I've spent too much money on it to see it be fried.

if possible can a mod lock this? it may not be dead per se, but as stated in another thread, a 150w opus should do fine, so the 200w snap in/itps is scrapped. just need to save away the dough to get the opus.
