    M1-ATX or the PW-80?

I am building a second system and plan on using a DC-DC supply with this mother board http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0183953 the Venom V2DP micro ATX

I want something affordable, that will work in the car environment w/o an extra regulator. Being able to run the computer during cranking would be a plus, auto start is a must, auto shut down would be a bunus.

    I am planning on starting with a 1.6Ghz AMD, 250mb ram, and a WD 250GB 7200 hd.

    Any suggestions?

The PW80 is not fully regulated and does not include a startup/shutdown controller. I can't say if the M1-ATX power the system you have in mind. It depends primarily on the motherboard design. If it powers the processor from the 3.3V or 5V rails, it might work. If it requires the 12V rail, the M1-ATX is far too underpowered to get the job done.

    Hi MSUC5Vette.

Of the two power supplies that you are looking at, the M1-atx is the better choice for a car computer. It may be more expensive, but you get what you pay for. In this case, getting the M1-atx gets you a power supply that provides a proper 12v, 5v, and 3.3v, when you are cranking your engine or when you are driving around. The other power supply can not do that. Also, the M1-atx provides several power up and power down timing options that are very useful when turning your can on and off.

    Hope that helped.

    Good luck.
