    installing itps with m10000

i was wondering if anyone has a close up pic of their installation of itps to an m10000. i just got the parts that i need to put my carpc together, and im not exactly sure how to hook up the itps. ive tried searching all over this site and i cant get the answer i need. i thought that some type of how-to might be helpful as well to some newbs that have questions about using an itps. i have the pw200m psu. if anyone has pics or could point me in the right direction that would help alot... TIA

Hooking up an itps is pretty easy, but be warned (as stated in multiple places on this forum) you can't used it with a 200w psu because the itps max's out at about 60w. I suppose if your drawingless than 60w from your 200w psu it'll be ok. Here's how to hookit up:
on one side of the itps you have the 3 power pins, the black is ground, (to the car chassis), the white goes to the cars 12v constant power ie always on, and the red goes to the car's switched acc on ie like the cig lighter. then on the other side of itps you have black and white power. these go directly to the psu.
not really hard at all. but be warned the itps has problems (or limitations) like the60w max, and the fact that you have like a 1.1v drop down so that usually when the engine is not on you don't get enough voltage to power the computer.

Well all these concerns have been discussed numerous times on these forums and you'll be abe to get more info

ITPS + 200 watt PSU will be fine all the way up to the 60 watts that the ITPS can output.

When you get tired of dealing with the ITPS issues, go ahead and buy the Carnetix. The Opus has the PSU built in but you have a 200 watt one already. The Carnetix replaces the ITPS and does the job properly. Survives crank, too.

Don't add up the cost of the ITPS and the Carnetix because that will put you in Opus territory. Of course, I'm speaking theoretically here. I would NEVER have been in the exact same situation myself...

The current Carnetix supports up to 80watts (depending on which model).

But soon they will be releasing one that supports 140watts!

I got a 20 watts PS and a ITPS and don't have any problems..........
You don't need any switch to turn the pc on/off the ITPS does it automatic....take a look to this site:

Right, the ITPS will turn it on an off automatically, whenever it senses that the accessory line has got 12 volts + from you turning the ignition on. When it senses that the 12 volts has gone to zero from turning it off, it will shut the PC down. No switch required, although I installed a switch inline to ensure I could decide when it would work and when it wouldn't.

I'll just say it again...you'll be sooooorrrrryyyyy for using an ITPS. Best of luck, though!

I also have the same setup but am waiting on my monitor before I install. Everyone keeps talking about opus this... carnetix that. well, im sure he would go buy those except, he's probably limited on money. Wouldn't the ITPS and PW200 be a better route than the inverter route?

I can only talk from personal experience. Before replacing my ITPS, I had multiple mysterious freezes of the computer system, I was unable to operate it with the car switched off and I was forced to reload the operating system on it at least 6 times due to the hard drive being scrambled.

Out of frustration, I eventually simply wired the DC-DC psu directly to the battery and controlled it via a switch, shutting it down by simply snapping the power off. That worked reliably for several months and I never once had to reload the OS or experienced system instability.

I eventually replaced it with a Carnetix and haven't had any problems with the startup or shutdown since then. Until I wired the carputer to the battery I had an expensive and unstable system. Every time I began to make progress with refining it, the system would crash and I would be required to start all over again. As far as I'm concerned, until the system was stable, I didn't have a working carputer.

The Carnetix is only $40 more than the ITPS. If I had known beforehand how much grief it would have saved me, I would have bought it immediately.

[BACKPEDDLE]I'm not saying those with ITPS' have a substandard system or have done something wrong. I'm just echoing what many have already reported with the ITPS. If it works for you, that's great and since you've got it, go ahead and install it. It might work. It might not. You've got all the info to diagnose it if it causes you a problem[\BACKPEDDLE]
