What kind of system are you running?
Glad it's working for you!
Alright, here are the detailed specs on the CarPC I've put together:Quote:
What are your PC Specs? Details!
Motherboard: Taken from the Shuttle ST62KS. This motherboard is very unique as it has a 6pin port on the back for 12v input. Makes it very car friendly. I bought mine refurbished for about $160. Take a look here. It supports P4 478pin, up to 800 FSB, onboard ATI Video, dual channel memory, etc etc. I bought it just for this CarPC. This unit also came with a hefty (10A+) 120v->12V Converter which I have some dirty plans for ;]
Case: Custom built from plexiglass and sweat (and blisters) Still need to deal with cooling in my case, but I've got plenty of ideas. Cold cathode for some added bling. Depending on final power draw, I would like to add a second CC.
HDD: 120G 7200RPM Maxtor from pile of stuff. Will probably switch to 5400RPM before finalizing install.
CPU: P4 2.8/800 Northwood. Underclocked to 1.86Ghz to reduce heat (plus I don't need the extra speed right now). Undervolted to 1.25v for the same reasons.
Memory: 1G DDR466 clocked @ 333. 2x512 Sticks of Kingmax BGA ram, undervolted to 2.5v. Might drop back to 512 if heat or power is an issue later. Using 128MB for video ram (overkill? sure, but heh, I don't need 994MB for and MP3 player either ;] )
Screen: Xenarc 700TSV, not yet running from regulated 12v power (plan to do this eventually). Very nice screen, good touchscreen, overall very happy with it.
I've also hooked up my XM Direct (Serial + 12v), Holux USB GM212, USB2 Hub(unpowered), Wireless USB Keyboard, USB Touchscreen. I am using the micro shutdown controller from mp3car.com, which I believe Jeff also designed (correct me if I'm wrong). This piece is also working very well.
I've tested the power supply with all this hooked up, and it survives engine crank no problem. My only issue so far is with the motherboard. Despite my best efforts with powerstrip, I cannot get the onboard video to display a native 800x480 resolution. I've put this to the back burner for now, but I hope to one day get it figured out (worst case, I'll get a low profile pci nvidia card)
For software I am currently using Frodoplayer w/Frodosatelliteradiox and iGuidance 2.1, with hibernation working fine. I've also got streets and trips installed for the POI database which it has.
Future plans include a USB wireless nic(want to find one with good range) and trying to get a dvd player into the setup somewhere. Adding a second cold cathode. I also want to power the Xenarc from this power supply so that when the computer is off, so is the Xenarc, instead of wasting power scanning for a signal. Oh, and I also need actually finish the install ;]
Here are a few pics to see what I've got setup. I didn't take a picture with my meter inline to measure amps, but it maxed out around 8 (on the input side of the DSX12V). I'll take more detailed measurements once everything is installed.
