And what the **** is the point of a carpc if it cant be everything your desktop is? At least im not trying to vapor cool my carpc. Although that would be awsome.

And isnt the point of this forum to push the envelope of what can be done and not just follow what everyone else does? I guess i could be like you and settle for less. amen, 2.8 all the way

theres quite a number of threads on this here forum that mention "WTF why would you want a decent computer in your CAR?! thats retarded, your never going to do anything in there but play mp3s like the rest of us!! fool"

gosh having a faster computer in the automobile is just as ridiculous as having a computer in the automobile these days...

and whats the deal with the "he probably doesnt even need the 200 watts anyway" above? fabulous way to market your new product, what by mentioning you can supply a larger 12v rail to a lesser power supply for those power hungry high-end processors, then flaming on those who see the need for said high-end processors

anywho... thats was fun ive never had a rant on the forums yet... golly gosh what a delight

No. That really isn't the point specifically.

And enjoy spending way more money than you need to to impress all your ricer buddies and dorky friends when much more intelligent choices are better.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. My point was that the PW-200 isn't any different that what other people are calling 80 watt or 90 watt power supplies. It puts out 13 amps max on the +5, 13 amps max on the +3.3. SO if you were playing by the rules you would say it is a 104 watt power supply max with a bypass for the 12 volts. You get whatever voltage at the battery that you do on the output.

The power output they choose was pretty much a random high number. It is simillar to the way that AMD calls their CPUs 3200 when it is actually running at 2000 Ghz. They can do this because the performance is more of a real world comparison, not just the clock speed.

Power shouldn't be treated as a random number, because it can catch fire and 200 watts really is 200 watts.

Plus the tiny little 18 gauge wires they provide can not carry 200 watts without catching fire eventually. You shouldn't base your other decisions on this number.

It really bums me out when manufacturers publish random specs and then everyone goes out a buys their products because they look great when they really have a hamster wheel under the hood.

Are there ricers in kansas? Wouldn't it be like wheaters or corn-ers or something like that?

    Hi Jeff,
    Nice job!
I'm searching a 12V regulator for my carpc.
    It's composed with:
    -pw70a
    -EpiaM9000
    -512MB ram
    -CF ide adapter
    -DVD slim
    -parallel 20x4 LCD
-usb bluetooth and usb GPS receiver
    -lilliput 7" TS.

I think your regulator is fine for this setup, isn't it?And maybe can I add some other load on the future?
Does the price include shipping? I'm from italy...
I think If you sell the regulator at 50$ me and many of us in here will buy it on the fly
    bye

Oh please. 4 transistors, a coil, and a 24 pin SSOP? It's got "app note" written all over it. Of course, that's not a bad thing. But let's not ring up the patent office just yet, Mr. Cuk.

Nobody's going to fab a board for that SSOP when they can just buy a finished unit for $70. And a real competitor just purchase one of your units anyway.

So how 'bout it zootjeff? Will you divulge the part number or do we have to flip through this month's issue of _Power_Electronics_?

To rushnrockt and MrPerfectionest: it's not a full bridge, it's not a SEPIC, and it's not a senior design project.

This is probably true cuz fab a board for SSOP is pain in the A$$ for DIYer when the finish unit is 70 bucks.

Even the Sproggy project is fully available for DIY, not that many people want to do it when they can buy the Opus. They do it cuz there is no subtitude (when the Opus is in a LONGGGG waiting list).

Also, consider that the cheap, rapid-turnaround pc boards suck for fine pitch surface mount. You really want to have a solder mask.

Even if zootjeff offered his CAD files free on his website, you'd still need to produce at least 3 units to come out ahead. That assumes you make zero mistakes and everything works the first time.
